Y’all….vacation is HARD. And by vacation, I don’t mean somewhere on a tropical beach sipping an umbrella adorned cocktail. There’s nothing hard about that. I’m talking about school break.
I must be a really slow learner. Each and every time we have a school vacation, I go into it with grandiose ideas of all of the relaxing I am going to do. I am going to sleep in, spend the day in my jammies watching movies and my neglected DVR shows. I am going to tackle that stack of magazines on my nightstand. I’ll read at least 3 books. It will be nothing but blissful enjoyment.
Yeah, nope. Not at all like that. Not even a little bit.
The holiday season in the Harris Household begins in September, picks up speed in October and then is a full-on chaotic festival right thru Thanksgiving and Christmas. I look forward to it every year, but honestly at the end of it I look like I’ve been drug through the streets by my hair. And, I feel even worse than that. Virtually every project I’m working on or to-do list I’ve made gets shoved into a drawer somewhere, forgotten in the hustle and bustle of the season. It’s nothing short of a miracle that I managed to launch this blog in October and even write a handful of posts between then and now.
Typically, I ease into the New Year gently, not making any crazy resolutions or massive “To-Do” lists until the kids go back to school during the second week. I don’t even think about going to the gym, I eat all of the junk food within a 5-mile radius, and drink wine Every. Single.Night. This year, a little trip to NYC has pushed all of my adulting well into the second half of January.
So, here we are. It’s time to get my shit together, pull those lists and projects out of their hiding places and conquer the world. Or at least the laundry.
Truth be told, I love January almost as much as the holiday season. There’s something about a “fresh start” with new goals that appeals to me. It’s time to clear the clutter, both in my house and in my mind. Drink a little water. Get a little exercise. Make some goals. Get some stuff done.
Barring any unforeseen illnesses, natural disasters or Netflix binges, I’ll be posting more often here. Stay tuned, I’ve got work to do. After all, it’s 9 months and counting until my holiday season starts again!!
